The immediate response

What to do
after default.

A calm, ordered checklist. The first goal is control — not arguing with a caller.

PRIORITY #1 — ACCOUNT AGGREGATORS
Review active Account Aggregator consents and revoke unnecessary data-access permissions through the relevant consent-management interface. Save proof of revocation. Revoking consent does not cancel the underlying loan.

01. Protect your digital footprint

Review app permissions
Tighten WhatsApp privacy
Review public social profiles
Consider temporarily deactivating LinkedIn if targeted
Review linked devices / sessions
Save important account information before uninstalling apps

02. Review payment mechanisms

Separate recurring payment instructions from the underlying loan. Review eNACH/NACH, UPI Autopay and standing instructions. Cancel unwanted active mandates through the relevant bank/payment channel where appropriate and save confirmation.

IMPORTANT
Canceling a payment mandate does not automatically cancel the underlying loan or contractual obligation.

03. Build your money map

Export six months of bank statements. Highlight lender disbursements, repayments, UPI IDs, beneficiary names and UTR/reference numbers. Create one record per loan.

04. The no-panic response

Do not argue with harassment messages
Screenshot before deleting or blocking
Do not share OTPs, PINs or banking credentials
Do not invent a fraud story
Move substantive communication to verified official channels
Do not ignore a verified formal legal/regulatory process

05. If they contact references or your employer

Don't try to win every conversation. Preserve the communication, identify the sender and relationship, and use the employer/reference response templates in the Survival Guide.

REMEMBER
Do not panic. Their pressure does not have to determine your next action. Document first. Verify second. Respond formally.
